1965 Philadelphia Bob Hayes

Keeping on with a football vibe, here's a rookie Card That Never Was of Bob Hayes.  On this date in 1964 he won a gold medal in the Tokyo Olympics in the men's 100m.

In his rookie season, 1965, he had 1003 receiving yards, led the NFL in TD receptions and was selected to the Pro Bowl.

    1. I was not aware of that. I'd love to see that story if you have a link.

I thought Clarence Childs was one as well, but it was only Henry Carr.

  2. Thanks for the link Jim. Very interesting. I remember Renaldo Nehemiah and Willie Gault but Ron Brown and Henry Carr are new to me. The article left out Tommie Smith, though. He was best known as the Gold Medal athlete who held up his fist at the 1968 Olympics. But he also played in 2 games for the Bengals in 1969. He had just one reception for 41 yards. I wanted to make a card for him as well but could not find a color photo of him in a Bengals uniform.

My turn to share a link:

    1. Henry Carr story, including his 1967 and 1968 football cards:

John Carlos, who shared the medal podium with Tommie Smith, was signed by the Eagles but didn't make the team.
