Cardinals v Rockies
U-25 v Phillies
Pirates v Diamondbacks

Tripling up again as the second round is already underway. Today I wont spoil it for you but is you want to check out the current standings click here. Once again, we have three teams with long histories, and two with relatively short histories. We also have a fill-in team to make it an even sixteen teams for the NL bracket.

In the Cardinals-Rockies match up we have Dizzy Dean, Rogers Hornsby, Ozzie Smith and Stan Musial.  Representing the Rockies are Ubaldo Jimenez, Todd Helton, Troy Tulowitzki and Larry Walker. If you want to see the results of this series click here for the story and video.

For the Under Twenty-Five team we have White Sox Pitcher Lucas Giolito, Mets first baseman Pete Alonso, Braves outfielder Ronald Acuna Jr. and Dodgers outfielder Juan Soto.  The Phillies have pitcher Robin Roberts, DH Dick Allen and outfielders Richie Ashburn and Chuck Klein.  If you want to see the results of this series click here for the story. Sorry but no video.

In the Pirates - Diamondbacks match up we have Vern Law, Honus Wagner, Bill Mazeroski and the great Roberto Clemente. For the D-Backs Randy Johnson is on the mound backed by Steve Finley, Paul Goldschmidt and Luis Gonzalez.  If you want to see the results of this series click here for the story and video.

These cards are base on the MLB Dream Bracket.  Not sure who picked the "all-time players". It is a product of Twitch, Out of the Park and Draft Kings.  I take no responsibility for their choices, good or bad.  The cards themselves are based on a rejected Topps design from the late sixties.

TBT - Arizona Diamondback Edition

Throwback Thursday

Ok this will be a quick and dirty post I will try to actually publish every Thursday. I will make a retro card of a current player from the era of the throwback uni he is wearing. I will also post an actual card from that era as a comparison point.

This one is a slightly shorter throw than usual but a throwback none the less.  This season the Diamondbacks are wearing throwback uniforms the team wore from 1998-2006 on select Thursday home games.
Here is a shot of Arizona's current first baseman, Paul Goldschmidt and the 2002 Topps card of Jay Bell. Bell played second base for the 2001 World Series Champs. The uniforms look pretty accurate but that  sleeve patch looks a little smaller on the 2016 version.

2011 Managers of the Year

The selection of 2011 Managers of the year surprised no one. Madden and Gibson were the favorites but I had a sneaky feeling that LaRussa would somehow get the nod out of sentimentality. I have to admit the Gibson card was made for the NL Championship Series but never got posted because they were eliminated. But the Madden card is freshly made.

Broadcasters Playoff Edition: Diamondbacks vs. Brewers

The post season is upon us and here is how the ex-players match up in the broadcast booths.

As a player the edge goes to Mark Grace who had more hits than any other major leaguer in the '90's. But in the booth Bob Uecker is a Hall of Famer.
